James Tierney

April 27, 1953 — April 1, 2020

James “Jim” Edward Tierney, age 66 passed away unexpectedly in his sleep in his Quincy home on April 1, 2020.  Beloved father of Top Tierney (Anni) brother to five surviving siblings, John Tierney (Jane), Judith Coneeny (John), David Tierney (Joy), Jacqueline Nolan (Jeffrey), Elaine Johnson (Glenn), as well as two grandchildren Theo and Myla.  He was predeceased by his parents, John J. Tierney, Jr and Marjorie A. Tierney and brother Kevin.

Born on April 27, 1953, in Boston, Ma, Jim grew up in St. Mark’s Parish in Dorchester, MA graduating from Boston Tech High School in 1972.

Jim was notoriously regarded as a kind-hearted brother and friend to all. Many who knew him have stories of his quiet kindness extended to anyone in need. He was famous for a sense of humor that brought cheerful smiles to all who had the privilege of his friendship.

Jim married Ta in 2000 and adopted her son Top who was seven at the time. The marriage ended in divorce but with his son, Top, remaining with him.  Top’s recent marriage to Anni has produced two grandchildren making Jim a very proud and involved grandfather to Theo and Myla. He took the role of grandfather very seriously and it brought out the best of Jimmy’s teasing sense of fun and humor.

Jim worked for many years with the Boston Public Schools in the Transportation Division as a Dispatcher. In the 1990’s, Jim created his own successful painting company known as Quality Painting Company.

When not working, Jim could often be found at the Port Norfolk Yacht Club on his boat or just socializing with the friends he easily made. He spent so much time at the Yacht Club that he was offered part-time employment there doing what he had been helping with anyway. The opportunity to merge what he loved proved true in both his painting business and work at the Yacht Club. Jim was all about his relationships with friends and family and he famously mastered combining work with the important relationships in his life.

His loss will be felt deeply by his family and friends.  His life will prove to be an inspirational model of humility and kindness for all who knew him.

Due to the Covid-19 virus services will be delayed until sometime in the summer when plans will be made for a Celebration of Life service
