Lucille Wright

August 22, 1937 ~ September 11, 2019 (age 82)

Lucille (Lee) Wright, 82 from all over, but most recently Worcester, MA, passed away Wednesday September 11th, 2019 from a very long battle with heart disease.  She is survived by six children, Dan Gilbar (Stacy) of Hudson, MA, Mike Gilbar (Ileen) of Jericho, VT, Donna Reese of Lunenburg, MA, Bob Gilbar (Dottie) of Enosburg Falls, VT, Tracy Hulbert (Dan) of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Tom Gilbar (Annie) of Niceville, FL. She is survived by 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Kind, caring, giving, strong willed, and sometimes prickly, there was never any question that she loved her “babies” (whether they were in their 60’s or new born) dearly, letting them know she loved them “to the moon and back” as often as she could. She fought long and hard to stay here for them, to enjoy them as long as possible.  Lucille’s surviving siblings are Phyllis Eisan, Wilfred Wright, Donald Wright, and Terry Wright. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Purcell, her son Kenneth Gilbar, her son-in-law Craig Reese, her parents Kenneth and Isabelle Wright, her brother Arnold Wright and her sister Gail Soucier.

Lucille referred to herself as a free spirit, and she definitely was. She enjoyed and spent much of her life traveling around the country, experiencing nature, and learning as much as she could about her Native American culture. She was born in Newport, VT, brought her children up in Massachusetts and Florida, and then traveled for many years before settling down again in Massachusetts. She especially loved being out west, spending a lot of her adult life in New Mexico and Arizona. She loved spending time with her family and researching her family genealogy, and she enjoyed making jewelry and doing puzzles on her computer. She especially loved hitting flea markets, garage sales, and gem stores, collecting frogs, jewelry, crystals, and rocks. She was both a gypsy and a packrat, as the sore backs of those who helped her move can attest. But she loved her collections, so her family did (grudgingly) too.

There are some of the larger rocks her family is looking forward to finding a final resting place for… But at this point they’ll most likely remain where they are right now!

Lucille’s illness limited her mobility recently. She is finally free to wander again, including to the moon and back. She will be sorely missed by her “Babies”!

Burial will occur in Newport, VT at a date and time to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a classical liberal arts K-8 school started by her grandson. Here is the link: It would give her great joy to support this foundation. Thank you
