Stuart A. Finlay, 57 lifelong resident of Whitman died suddenly Monday evening July 23. Stuart was born at South Shore Hospital August 10, 1960 and resided in Whitman since. He was a professional waiter at many fine dining restaurants throughout the last 20 years. Presently he was employed at the Fairview Inn in Marshfield. He also worked in collection at Filene’s Corporate office in Boston for many years.
Stuart enjoyed gardening, working with the Whitman Gardening Club, he hosted an open house at the family home known as Jolly Barnyard, showing off his beautiful “Secret Garden.” He was an actor, in many shows at Company Theater in Norwell and at Massasoit College in Brockton. He also loved movies and could recite the words from many of his favorite shows. He had a sense of humor that EVERYONE loved. One never knew what to expect with Stu.
He was predeceased by both his parents, Robert Finlay Sr., and Lillian (Tassinari)Finlay, also of Whitman and his brother David.
He is survived by his older sister Mary Porter where he lived in Mary’s second floor apartment in Whitman for the last 6 years. He maintained the yard both summer and winter and helped with all maintenance. He is also survived by his older brother Robert Finlay Jr. who lives in Medway, Maine, his niece and nephew Theresa Menice of Taunton, and Jeffrey Porter of Whitman. He is also survived by a great niece, Hayleigh Porter and 3 great nephews, Devin Porter, David Menice and Ryan Menice. Stuart had hundreds of great friends who loved him and his humor. He will be greatly missed.
Calling hours are at the MacKinnon Funeral Home, Washington Street in Whitman on Thursday July 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 pm.
