Elizabeth Ercius

July 1, 1920 — March 16, 2012

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Elizabeth “Betty” Ercius passed away on Friday, March 16 at the age of 91 after a brief illness ended her long struggle with alzheimer’s disease.  She spent the last 7 years living in Hingham with daughter Ruth and her husband Bruce Kelly.Betty was born in Donora, PA in 1920 and before moving to Hingham she resided in Cleveland, OH with her husband Ted for many years. She was with Halle Brothers Company and The Higbee Company before retiring to co-manage the Concord Place Apartments in Concord, OH.  She and her husband were devoted church members at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cleveland Heights where she sang in the choir and was a member of many committees over the years.

Betty was a meticulous seamstress and enjoyed sewing fully outfitted sock monkeys which were best sellers at church bazaars and loved by all of her grandchildren.  Over the last seven years she enjoyed sharing her days with the clients and loving staff at Active Day Medical Day Care of Hingham where she and Ted attended for almost 8 years before his passing one year ago.

Betty is survived by her two daughters Ruth Kelly and her husband Bruce of Hingham, Linda Ercius of Victorville, CA, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren Eric Swingle and his wife Laura and sons Kyle, Brian and Derek of Cincinnati, OH, William Bennett and his wife Shelley and daughters Roxy and Ruby of Monterey, CA, Elizabeth Cashman and her husband Jeffrey and their children Brady, Ben and Brooke of Hingham, Toby Bennett and Kristen Sullivan of Hingham and Joshua Kelly and his wife Brandi and their sons Asa of Dunstable, MA and Mason of Buffalo, NY.

Betty’s family, close friends and devoted caregivers will be celebrating her life in an upcoming private service.  Burial will be private at a later date.
