Richard Downey

Richard T. Downey of Bridgewater formerly of Whitman passed away Monday June 18, 2012 at the Brockton Hospital. He was 75. He was the son of the late Thomas P. and Elizabeth (Vincent) Downey, and nephew of the late Mayor of Brockton Joseph Downey. Husband of the late Helen (Donovan) Downey. Loving father of Dennis J. Downey of Dupont, WA, Steven M. Downey of Fairhaven, Kevin F. Downey of Whitman, Kathleen “Kate” MacKinnon of Hanson, and Maryellen Downey of Quincy. Grandfather of Megan, Heather, Sean, Ross and Sean Michael. Also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.
Richard worked in the Microbiology Laboratory at Brockton Hospital, retiring in 2009. He enjoyed travel, gardening, and music. He loved spending time with friends and family, and will be dearly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 22 nd in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
Interment will be held at a later date at Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman.
