Alan Fajvan

Alan Andrew Fajvan, 53, of Haverhill, MA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Lahey-Burlington Hospital after a short battle with esophageal cancer.

He was the beloved husband of Carrie Evelyn Fajvan and father of Ashley (14), Elizabeth (8) and Jack (7).  Alan married Carrie, the love of his life, on June 6, 2009 in Amherst, NH at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Together they created the family that they had each always longed for.

Alan is also survived by his parents, George and Mary Ann of South Dennis, MA; his siblings Mary Ann Fajvan (Robert Lynn) of Independence, WV, Vivian (Robert) Youngberg of Mattapoisett, MA, and George (Eileen) Fajvan of Newton, NJ; his parents-in-law Robert and Mitzie Ward of Vernon, CT; his brother and sister-in-law Alex and Connie Rivera of Wethersfield, CT; and his nephews and nieces:  Alex Youngberg, Evan Lynn, Riley Youngberg, Lily Youngberg, Bridget Fajvan, Rebecca Rivera, Kendra Rivera, Tianna Rivera, and Amelia Rivera.

Alan grew up in Lyndhurst, New Jersey where he and his brother spent countless hours playing with their Tonka trucks on the endless dirt piles their father created from his many backyard projects.  When they got a bit older Alan and George delivered local newspapers from their bicycles. Alan graduated from high school in 1984. He was an active member of the high school Technicians Club and served as its president. While still in high school he achieved certification as an EMT and became an active member of the Lyndhurst ambulance squad.  Alan graduated from Northeastern University College of Engineering and received his Bachelor of Science in June 1995.  He was passionate about his job where he designed and implemented enterprise infrastructure for 175 US Air Force domestic and overseas facilities for Abacus Technology.

Alan was very active in the Boy Scouts and loved spending time at Camp Tamarack in New Jersey.  He later went on to become a counselor there and a chef in the camp’s kitchen. He spent countless days camping in Acadia National Park and was well known for his elaborate camp set up.  He was a member of the Go New England (GONE) hiking group where he made many lifelong friends. He also enjoyed target shooting and reloading his collection of firearms.

Quick to give his mischievous smile, Alan was known for his jokes and pranks.  Hanging out with his brother and friends he gained the nickname “Wrench”, shorthand for his CB radio handle “Alan Wrench.”  His first vehicle was a Jeep CJ, which he dubbed the “Cool Breeze” and could be seen cruising the backroads with top off, trying to stay out of trouble.  He had a knack for overlooking faults in others and seeing the positives.  He will be missed by many.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on 3 Craftsman Lane in Amherst, NH at 11am on Saturday, June 29th.  All are welcome to the service and to a light lunch on-site following the service.
