Alfred Gillet

Whitman

Alfred J. Gillet, 79, passed away January 25, 2022, peacefully with his family at his bedside. He was the much loved husband of Rosemary. He was born in Fall River, son of John Alfred and Lauretta Gillet. Al attended school in Westport, where he lived. He graduated from Diman Vocational School in Fall River, then entered the U.S. Air Force, where he received training as a computer technician. The next three years he spent in Germany serving his country. While in Germany he married his wife Rosemary and they traveled to over 30 countries. When stateside again he worked for several computer companies, the last one with HP as a computer consultant. He furthered his education at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Westport Yacht Club, American Legion and VFW and was a communicant of Holy Ghost Parish in Whitman. He supported the Dollars for Scholars of Whitman and Hanson. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Whitman and Westport, where he had a summer home on the Westport River. He loved boating – sailing and power boats. For years he hosted an annual Pirate Day with a full treasure hunt for his family. He is also well known for his love of Western music and movies.

He is predeceased by his sister Anita Leake and is survived by his sister Annette Chaunt of Westport. He leaves his four children, John Gillet and his wife Diane of Hanson, Christa Crowley and her husband Jim of Whitman, Diane Sofia and her husband Mark of Merrimac and Dan Gillet and his wife Stacey of Lakeville. He is survived by his loving grandchildren Monica, Ashley, Nick, Jillian, Jack, Billy, Erica, Tony, Sarah, and Katie and one great-granddaughter Amelia as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private funeral service was held in the Mackinnon Funeral Home in Whitman with mass following at Holy Ghost Church. Burial was at St. James Cemetery in Whitman.

There will also be a celebration of life at a date to be determined.
