Alvaro P. Duarte Jr. of Fall River passed away on March 14, 2023 surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Alvaro was born in Ponta Delgada on the island of Sao Miguel, Azores in Portugal and immigrated to the United States at the age of 13. Alvaro continued education in Fall River and graduated with the Fall River High School class of 1973. After graduating he went right to work. Alvaro worked for banks his entire career starting as a teller and working his way up the ranks through security and finally as a facilities manager. His career ended in March of 2021 with his retirement from the Rockland Trust Bank.
Alvaro was a caring man with many talents and hobbies. He loved all forms of transportation, especially planes and trains and building models of them. He was a creative man and was known for his Azorean Nativity scenes that he set up for Christmas. He also loved Disney and enjoyed sharing that love with his daughter, Melissa. Above all else Alvaro was devoted to his family, cherishing any time he spent with them.
Alvaro was the loving father of Melissa Duarte of Whitman and grandfather of his grand cat Toby. He was the brother of Manuela Duarte of E. Providence and Mary Grace Lambertson of Fall River. Alvaro was the uncle of Christina Lambertson of Arlington and her husband David Lough. He also leaves behind many cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Alvaro on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 2-4pm in the MacKinnon Funeral Home at 760 Washington St. in Whitman. A Celebration of life will be held in the funeral home Monday, March 20, 2023 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at the Holy Ghost Parish in Whitman at 10:30 AM. Cremation will follow.
