Ann Mary (Burke) Guay, 90, most recently of West Bridgewater, MA and longtime resident of Saunderstown, RI, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022. Born in Brockton, MA, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Sarah V. (McDonald) Burke and predeceased by brothers Bernard and John.
A 1949 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Brockton, Ann received her Bachelor’s of Education (1953) and Masters in Education from Bridgewater Teachers’ College (1955). She taught elementary school mostly in the Quincy School System. In 1964, she married, moving to southern Rhode Island where she made her home for over 50 years, raising her family and working for the Providence Journal Bulletin. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard’s Church. Ann was a gentle and modest soul who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life- doing yard work, reading, doing crossword puzzles and volunteering at church.
Ann leaves 4 children, Lisa Guay of San Francisco, CA; Thomas Guay of Pasadena, CA; Michelle Guay of Portland, OR; Nicole Soshi and her husband, Makoto, of Kumamoto, Japan; one granddaughter, Lily Slivka of Brooklyn, NY and many wonderful nieces, nephews and relatives.
Visitation will be held from 9-10 am at MacKinnon’s Funeral Home 760 Washington St, Whitman, MA on Monday, April 25th, with a brief service following. The cemetery service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
