Bart John Murell of Provincetown, Massachusetts, took his final bow on August 22nd, his 72nd birthday, after a long illness.
Born in Hudson, New York, on August 22, 1953, to Barbara (Bobbie) Murell (nee Gosztyla) and Dominick Murell, Bart moved to Albany, New York, in his early childhood. After graduating from Vincentian Institute he attended Hudson Valley Community College. In Albany, Bart was a prominent member of Eba Dance Theater and a server at Cafe Hollywood.
A true renaissance man, Bart brought joy to many through his passions for the arts, food, wine, and travel. Bart moved to his spiritual home of Provincetown roughly four decades ago. He was a longtime (and fan favorite) server at The Mews, directed and choreographed several productions with Provincetown Theater, and taught dance and pilates classes at the community center. Approaching life as a grand performance, Bart was never one to fade into the background. A Fourth of July parade marshall and the self-appointed captain of the Gifford House 5:01 club, he also fulfilled his wanderlust by traveling to Russia, South Africa, French Polynesia, and many more destinations. We will miss his generous nature and sense of humor—along with his annual infamous Christmas cards.
Bart is survived by many loving friends and family members including niece Anna, and cousins Linda, Judy, Michael, Nathaniel, and Emma. He was predeceased by his parents and his older sister, Barbara. As Bart requested, a celebration of life is being planned so his friends and family can enjoy some good red wine in his honor.
