David R. "Hoppy" Harraden, 80, of Halifax, MA (grew up in Whitman, MA), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease surrounded by his family.
Born in 1945, David was a man whose life revolved around joy, adventure, and an unwavering love for his family. His deep devotion was most evident in his 62-year marriage to his beloved wife, Agnes (McCorkell) Harraden. They built a beautiful life together, serving as a shining example of enduring love and commitment for all who knew them.
David was a man of many enthusiasms. Known affectionately by many as "Hoppy," he embraced life with spirit, whether he was navigating the thrills of white water rafting, circling the floor with a smile at square dances, or gliding effortlessly while roller skating. Yet, above all his adventurous hobbies, his greatest passion was simply spending time with his family and friends. The laughter, warmth, and memories created during those gatherings were his most treasured accomplishments.
His legacy of love lives on through his children: Tammy Perry and her husband Larry of Raynham, MA; David Harraden and his wife Kathy of Weymouth, MA; and Karen Herlihy and her husband Darren of Whitman, MA. He was a cherished "Papa" to his five grandchildren: Crystal Harraden, Nicole (Perry) Joyce and her husband Dylan, Eric Perry, Alexa Herlihy, and Marissa Herlihy. He took immense joy in his three great-grandsons, Landon, Caleb, and Ryder, whose newest adventures continued to brighten his world.
Hoppy's warmth, adventurous spirit, and unforgettable smile will be profoundly missed by his entire family, his extended circle of friends, his many nephews and nieces, his “other” daughter, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest adventure was the life he shared with those he loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Meadowbrook restaurant (Hanson, MA) on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 5pm – 8pm.
