David Rae Matheson, 73, of Middleboro, Massachusetts, was called home by the Lord on October 3, 2025, in Plymouth. Born on February 7, 1952, in Brockton, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of the late Rae Matheson (1926–1968) and Shirley Elinor Holmes (1929–2017). David grew up in Whitman alongside siblings Elinor, Linda, Edward, and James.

Dave was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School class of 1970; after high school he enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard where Dave devoted four years of service stationed from Governors Island, New York; to Iwo Jima, Japan; and then to West Memphis, Arkansas. On return to Massachusetts, he built a successful career in electronics and information technology, earning the respect of colleagues for his integrity and expertise. In 1980, he married Janet M. Leitch; together they raised two daughters, Jessica and Andrea, in the town of Whitman. Throughout Dave’s life he lived in the south shore region of Massachusetts. For most of his adult life, Dave was an active servant of the Lord and never hesitated to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He spent decades on the stage or in the studio playing guitar, and a variety of other instruments while lending his warm singing voice to numerous bands. Faith, family, and music were his abiding passions.

He is survived by daughters Jessica and Andrea; grandchildren Tyler, Evelyn, and Jasmine; his sister Elinor and husband (Ernest) Trox, sister Linda; his brothers Edward and James and his wife (Susanne); Mary Belluomini, Leah and Hannah Papoulias; as well as an extended circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Dave spent his days serving others and spreading joy through faith and music. His gentle spirit and steadfast devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held in Plymouth at the VFW on November 9, 2025 from one to five PM.
