Douglas “Doug” Edward David passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 26th, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a resident of Braintree, Massachusetts, at the time of his death.
Doug was born in Boston on September 15th, 1951, the beloved son of Bernard Edward and Dorothy Anna (Harrison) David, both of whom predeceased him. He was raised in Braintree. After graduating from high school, he attended Providence College and was drafted by a Major League Baseball team, the Milwaukee Brewers.
He was joined in marriage with Judith “Judy” Peterson on August 24th, 1974, at the Congregational Church in Braintree. They shared one son, Daniel Edward David, Sr., who was born in 1978.
Over the years, Doug worked various jobs. He was employed as a maintenance person in Quincy, Massachusetts, for over ten years. He later retired as a custodian for the City of Newton after 18 years of employment.
Aside from his family, whom he treasured and loved beyond measure, baseball was one of the great loves of his life. Although he was passionate about the sport in general, he was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan. He was also a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots. In the history of Braintree baseball, Doug was a top five pitcher. He and his friend helped start the semi-pro baseball league with the Braintree White Sox. He played softball for local towns and teams well into his 50s. He enjoyed camping and was fond of the American bald eagle.
Doug was a devoted father to his only son. He was also a cherished grandpa to his three grandsons and three great-granddaughters. He was a person who was considered larger than life both in personality and stature. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone without asking for anything in return. He was quick-witted and always knew how to get his message across with just one look.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy David, of Hanson, Massachusetts; their son, Daniel Edward David Sr., and his wife, Melissa (Barclay) David, of Hanson; grandsons, Joshua E. DavidHenshaw and his spouse, Melissa, of Taunton, Massachusetts, Owen M. David, and Daniel Edward David, Jr., both of Hanson; great-granddaughters, Peyton, Everleigh, and Adelyn, of Taunton; sister, Susan (David) Cahoon, and her husband, Donnie Cahoon, of Weymouth; nieces, Nicole, Stephanie, Julie, Krissy, and Lori; step-siblings, Don, Jimmy, and Eileen; and many friends, all of whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his stepmother, Ethel David.
Doug’s family and friends are invited to his Celebration of Life at Henrick Hall, 41 Redwood Drive, in Halifax, Massachusetts, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21st, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Braintree youth baseball programs.
