Elaine Sawler

October 3, 1927 — April 6, 2020

Elaine M. Sawler (Peterson) 92, of Avon, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Monday April 6, 2020 at the Care One Nursing facility in Randolph, MA. Elaine was born in Brockton, MA in 1927 to Gunnar and Betty Peterson (Carlson). She is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Albert Wellington Sawler, and her brother Earl Peterson.

Elaine is survived by her three children; Michael Sawler and his wife Deborah of Avon, Mark Sawler and his wife Marion of West Bridgewater, and Betty Arnold and her husband Scott of Concord. In addition, Elaine leaves 7 grandchildren; Michael and his fiancé Dagmar Martin, Jill Dos Reis and her husband Idio, Kerri and Noel, Garrett, and Zachary and his fiancé Katie Cech, Richie and Matt Lareau, and eight great-grandchildren; Tom, Cole, Quan, Kai, Kyrie, Connor, Giselle, Zoe, and many nieces and nephews.

Elaine was very devoted and loving to her entire family. Having wonderful parents herself, she had an idyllic childhood and was able to live in the town of Avon her whole life. Very proud of her Swedish heritage, and fluent in speaking Swedish, she carried on many foods and traditions during the years - especially with her famous and beloved Christmas Eves. Elaine traveled to Sweden, what she referred to as “home”, numerous times throughout her life, in addition to her many family members in Sweden frequently visiting here. She enjoyed many years as a member of the Viking Club along with her parents, Gunnar and Betty. Elaine had a gift shop selling Swedish goods for several years known as “Elaine’s Butik”. A large part of Elaine’s life revolved around her church - which gave her great joy. Formerly named “Gethsemene Lutheran”, now “Prince of Peace” – she was a member of the choir her entire life, often singing solos or duets with her beautiful voice, along with establishing life-long friendships and spending many hours happily giving her time and talents to it’s good causes. Some of her many talents and passions, too numerous to fully list included – cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, playing the piano, dancing, golfing, and entertaining. Her infectious smile and sense of humor along with her ability to make everyone she met feel special was a unique gift. By far, the focus of her life was making happy memories for family and friends. She will be forever missed by everyone lucky enough to have loved her and been loved by her.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date and time TBA. Please check back periodically for updates and service announcements.
