John “Jack” E. Gordon of Abington formerly of West Roxbury died on Friday, May 29, 2009 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 60 years old. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Staffier) Gordon of Abington. Beloved father of Kristine Smith and her husband Richard of Abington, Deborah Holmes and her husband Douglas of Whitman, and Jacqueline Whitman and her husband Robert of Abington. Devoted brother of Dr. Thomas Gordon III of Quincy, James Gordon of CT, Robert Gordon of Canton, Michael Gordon of West Roxbury, Margaret Hickey of Weymouth, and Marie Gordon of West Roxbury. Son in law of Sylvia Staffier, also survived by five grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.
Jack was born in Boston and was the son of the late Thomas & Margaret (Keating) Gordon Jr. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked as a fire fighter for the City of Boston assigned to Ladder 16, the Lighting Plant, and Fire Prevention. He was a member of Boston Fire Fighters Local 718, Boston Fire Fighters Death & Welfare Fund, the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM), and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). He was a 4th. Degree Member of the Abington Knights of Columbus Council #5254 where he served as the manager. He enjoyed gardening, traveling to Aruba, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral from the MacKinnon Funeral Home 760 Washington St. (off Rte.18), Whitman on Thursday at 9:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 in St. Bridget’s Church 455 Plymouth St., Abington. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Boston Fire Local 718 Death & Welfare Fund, 55 Hallet St., Dorchester, MA 02124 or to the Abington Fire- Rescue Gift Account 1040 Bedford St., Abington, MA 02351.
