John “Jack” J. O’Brien, Jr.,83, of Yarmouthport, Ma., passed away peacefully on May 24, 2014. John was born on February 15, 1931, in Cambridge, Ma., to the late John and Irene O’Brien. John proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1956 he married Mary Cristina (Chris) Costello, to whom he remained married over the past 58 years. John spent most of his career working in the men’s retail clothing industry, serving as a highly regarded and successful sales representative for The Haggar Apparel Company of Dallas, Texas for over forty years, earning numerous awards and accolades for his talents as a salesman. In his spare time, John was a dedicated public servant (working for many years with the Jaycees, Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus), an avid golfer, and devoted family man. He also lived life to the fullest, could light up a room with his smile and charisma, and created a wide circle of friends over his life.
John is survived by his wife, sons Michael of Chicago, Il, John of Southern CA, and grandchildren Taylor O’Brien, Lauren O’Brien, Jack O’Brien and Christopher O’Brien.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 29th, from 4-7 pm at the MacKinnon Funeral Homes, 760 Washington St., Whitman.
