John O'Neill

John P. O’Neill, 78, of Rockland, passed away on Sunday September 27, 2009
after a courageous battle. He leaves his beloved sister, Helen T. O’Neil
of Rockland and his lifelong friend and partner Chuck McEachren. Beloved
brother to the late Alice Carew, Eugene O’Neill, Joseph O’Neill, Marie
Doucette and Katherine Curley. Cherished uncle to many nieces and
nephews. Mr. O’Neill was an army veteran of the Korean war. After his
service, he began his career as a hair stylist in Hollywood, CA. He
opened the landmark shop, Salon De Jon, on Charles St. in Boston, and
then moved it to Whitman, MA until he semi-retired in 1995.

Mr. O’Neill was a world traveler who regaled all with his photos and
stories. His travels always brought him new found friends. He loved the
theatre from Broadway to London to local community theatre. John was an
avid movie buff and loved tennis, skiing and, later in life, painting
abstract watercolors. His Irish roots taught him love of family,
generosity of spirit and enjoyment of people. He will be remembered with
love, affection and humor by all whose lives he graced.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Hospice of
South Shore, 100 Bay State Drive, Braintree, MA 02185 and will be
greatly appreciated.

Visiting hours will be 4 - 8 on Wednesday, September 30th at the
MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman, MA .

Funeral Mass will be held in St. Bridget’s Church in Abington, at
9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1st .
