Pembroke, MA

John "Stump" Quigley, 67, passed away on April 27, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts—the city where he was born on April 25, 1958. His life was a vibrant journey filled with adventure, music, and meaningful connections.

A proud graduate of Hanover High School’s Class of 1976, John went on to study at the Lundeberg School of Seamanship. He began his career as an oiler aboard LNG tankers, traveling the world and embracing a spirit of exploration. Later, he worked as a tradeshow manager across the United States before returning home to Boston, where he found joy and fulfillment in painting.

John's passions were as colorful as his experiences. A devoted fan of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia, music was a constant companion throughout his life. He also found peace hiking many mountains and any kind of natural areas as an avid bird watcher who treasured quiet moments outdoors. His bicycle was also one of his favorite pass times, riding around town and down by the river.

Family remained at the heart of John's life. He cherished time spent with his many nieces and nephews, as well as their children, and shared lasting bonds with his sister Theresa Doyle of Pembroke and brother Paul Quigley, as well as Paul's fiancé Belinda Haen both from Tamworth, NH, also his dear friend Deb Campbell of Pembroke. His warmth extended far beyond bloodlines, creating a wide circle of friends who became chosen family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Hugh Quigley Sr.; brothers Hugh Quigley Jr.; Bill Quigley; and sister Nancy Kelble.

John "Stump" Quigley will be remembered not only for the places he traveled or the work he accomplished but for the joy he brought into the lives of others. His welcoming presence and infectious love for life leave behind memories that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort and light to those who carry it forward. A celebration of life will be held at Camp Kiwanee, 460 Indian Head St. Hanson, Ma. 02341 on Saturday, June 7th from 1-6 pm.
