June Rose W. Jordan

March 18, 1930 — June 6, 2023

Harwich

June Rose W. Jordan, 93, of Harwich, MA died Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at home, following a brief battle with cancer.

She was the beloved wife of David E. Jordan. The couple had celebrated 72 years of marriage before he predeceased her on January 28, 2022.

Born at home in Malverne, NY, June was the daughter of the late Emil and Caroline (Brinkhoff) Wilsnack. June was raised and educated in Malverne, entering first grade at Davis Avenue School and graduating from Malverne High School with the class of 1947.

In her youth, June excelled at sports, from her favorite, field hockey, to volleyball, basketball and softball. She continued to be active throughout her adult life,  participating in a local bowling league until she was 90.

Upon graduation from high school, June worked as a secretary at Ames, Baldwin and Wyoming Tool Company for two years, and then at VanDyke Churchill Milling Machine Company. In 1952, she left the work force to begin her commitment to raising her three daughters with David.  They began building their family in upstate and later, Queens, NY, before settling in Verona, NJ, for 30 years. While there, June had a successful 24 year career working as secretary to the principal at Montclair High School, Montclair, NJ. The couple moved to Harwich in 1996, where they happily spent their retirement.

June loved crafting, especially stitching with friends whether it was knitting or counted cross stitch, and knitted many prayer shawls over the years to give to parishioners in need.  She had a life-long passion for reading and all things words, which she passed on to her daughters and her grandsons.   June was an active member of  St. David's Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth, and participated in many activities, including ushering and greeting, counting the offerings, and volunteering at the Paper Pantry.

Wherever she lived, June made many long-term friends who will miss her greatly, remembering her dry sense of humor, her kindness toward and acceptance of all, and her big heart.  She was beloved by many, including the aides who cared for her.  The family is grateful for the nurses from VNA Hospice and the aides, Especially Sue and Dasheba, who made June’s life as comfortable as possible, made her laugh and helped her live her life with joy during the last three months.

June is survived by her three loving daughters, Leslie J. Cruikshank and her husband, Jack of Clarkston, MI, Patrice J. Mavricos and her husband, John of South Yarmouth, and Pamela L. Sauerwald and her husband, Tim of Doylestown, PA; two beloved grandsons, Christopher J. Mavricos of Boulder, CO and David M. Mavricos, of Cincinnati, OH and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Winifred Emma Logan, Gerald Peter Wilsnack, and Ethel Anna Selle.

A memorial service, celebration of June’s life and interment will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth, in the Fall, details to be announced at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
