Lorraine Anne (Conefrey) Lemonof Whitman passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Saturday, September 6, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted daughter of James Michael Conefrey and Henrietta (O’Connell) Conefrey of Brockton. Lorraine was the loving wife of sixty-seven years to the late William F. Lemon, Sr., of Alden Street in Whitman. It was here on Alden Street, birth place and childhood home of Bill, where they chose to raise their own family.
Lorraine was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1938 and Brockton Business School. She worked as a secretary in a Brockton law firm as well as at Camp Edwards during WW II. She compiled the Persons Listed book for the Town of Whitman for many years. Lorraine and Bill were co-owners along with her sister and brother-in-law, (Mildred “Sis” and Jimmy), of Jenk’s Pub in Brockton for over 20 years. Lorraine was a long-time communicant of the Holy Ghost Church and a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader in the 1950s.
Lorraine’s biggest and proudest accomplishment was her family. She was most happy when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted children, Marsha J. Marsh of Whitman, Michael J. Lemon and his wife ChinSuk of Hanson, William F. Lemon, Jr. and his wife Laurel of Orleans, Edward S. Lemon of Arlington, and Kathleen A. Strachan and her husband Jack of Whitman. Lorraine was grandmother to Suzanne Sottak of Whitman, Jeanne McGrath and her husband Keith of Milford, Jack Strachan IV, William Strachan and Ryan Strachan. She was great grandmother to Reagan, Caitlin, and Michael McGrath and Connor Sottak. Lorraine is survived by her sister Ellen Simpson of Brockton. She was the sister of the late Esther Bryant, Mary Marozik, Mildred Purificato all of Brockton, as well as Janice Toomey of California. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours in the Mackinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Thursday Sept. 11 th 4-8 pm.
Funeral Mass on Friday in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
Interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Whitman Food Pantry.
