Marilyn Gilmetti

May 6, 1947 — August 26, 2020

Marilyn (Cortese) Gilmetti of Whitman passed away peacefully August 26, 2020 at Brockton Hospital, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Fred L. Gilmetti of Whitman. Mother of Scott O’Dowd and his wife Kelly Grimes of Brookline, and Jennifer Dykens and her husband Sean of Rochester. Sister of James Cortese and his wife Dianna of Melrose and Robert Cortese and his wife Jane of Raymond, NH. Grandmother of Ryan and Abigail. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was a graduate of Melrose High School Class of 65. She was a friend to all those she met.  Her positivity and bright personality was infectious.  She could strike up a conversation with a stranger and would have a friend by the end.  She loved her job as a Real Estate Appraiser because it allowed her to meet so many people.  She was a second mom to many of her children’s friends.  She loved nothing more than a house full of people.

Marilyn was a lover of animals.  She loved boating with Fred to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Cuttyhunk.  She loved staying active and spending time with her family and friends.  Marilyn was always up for a cup of coffee, good conversation and lots of laughs. Although she may no longer be here physically, her love and spirit lives on in all those who were so lucky to know and love her.

Relatives and friends invited to attend visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Monday Aug. 31 st 4-7 pm.  Funeral Mass Tuesday in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am. Interment will be held at a later date at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
