Mary Brassard (Poulos) passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at her daughter’s home in Whitman, MA on July 2 nd 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 3 rd 1926 in Burlington, VT, to her loving parents James Poulos and Chrysanthe Poulos (Yemouyannis). She was predeceased by her parents and siblings; Jennie Pantazis, Angelos Poulos, Sophocles Poulos, and Steve J. Poulos. She was also predeceased by her cherished husband, Gerard C. Brassard, and three of her sons-in-law, Robert DeCosta, Paul Lolax, and Thomas Christopher.
Mary was born and raised in Burlington, VT, a city she truly loved. She grew up swimming in Lake Champlain, skiing in Stowe, VT, and hiking the Green Mountains. She was a proud graduate of Burlington High School. She met her dear husband, Gerard, at a dance in Burlington, VT. They were married in 1950, and settled in Boston, MA. She was a hard-working bookkeeper who rose to the position of Comptroller, eventually retiring at the age of 88. She also practiced Tai Chi until the age of 88, was a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society, and proudly participated in the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) in the ‘90s. She was an exceptionally loving mother, grandmother (YiaYia), and great-grandmother. She was well loved by all who knew her, known for her eternal cheerfulness and bright, always matching, outfits.
She is survived by her four loving daughters: Christine DeCosta of Hanover, MA; Johanna Lolax and her husband Steve Jones-D’Agostino of Worcester, MA; Marianne Abany and her husband Ricky Cibotti of Concord, NH; and Pandora Christopher and her longtime companion George Meegan of Whitman, MA. She also is survived by her two granddaughters; Nicole Christopher of Whitman, MA; Theodora DeCosta and her husband Shane Elliott of Bellingham, MA; and her one great- granddaughter, Wren Elliott of Bellingham, MA.
Mary’s family would like to thank the caregivers of Old Colony Hospice, Good Home Health Care, and the Hanson Senior Center for their wonderful care and services.
A visitation will be held on Monday July 11 th 10- 11 am with a Memorial service to follow at 11 am. In the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Old Colony Hospice.
