Mary Fries

Mary G. (McGillivray) Fries, 86, of Whitman passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 peacefully in Hospice care and in the presence of family.

Mary was born in Dorchester and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret McGillivray.  She was the beloved wife of the late Harold F. Fries, USN Ret. Mary and Harry moved to Whitman in 1960 and remained there raising their family.

Mary worked for many years at the Whitman DPW as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement.  Mary was very involved in many activities in Whitman and at the Holy Ghost Church. Mary was involved in supporting athletics at Whitman-Hanson HS while her children were attending.  Mary enjoyed poker games on Wednesday nights at the VFW with her sister Peggy.  She also enjoyed any and all family activities with her children and grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her children Steven Fries and wife Barbara of Milford, CT., Marie Fries of Whitman, Robert Fries and wife Sharon of Bridgewater.  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Morgan, Derrick, Erik, Kasey, David, Zachary (US Army), Shane and Alexa. She was preceded in death by her siblings John McGillivray, Joseph McGillivray, Frances Hogan, Raymond McGillivray and Margaret(Peggy) McGillivray.

Visitation will be held in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Saturday December 12 ^th 9-10am.  Funeral mass will follow at 10:30am at Holy Ghost Church.  Please note due to COVID-19 there is only 50 people allowed in the church.

Interment to follow at Saint James Cemetery.

There will be a celebration of life in the spring on a date to be determined.
