Mary Porter

Mary Porter of Whitman passed away on October 4, 2023 just a day after turning 74. Mary was raised and educated in Whitman Graduating with the Whitman/Hanson class of 1967. During those days she worked in the family shoe repair business, Finlay Shoe Repair and sold ice cream with her brother out of the "Jolly Barnyard Ice Cream Wagon". Mary married, started a family and kept her work local in other family businesses. She spent many years working in real estate and insurance before turning her attention to her true passion, golf. She started a magazine, Tee-Time, and spent many years as the publisher and editor.

Mary was a hard worker but also had many other talents and hobbies. She was a crafty and artistic woman who would sculpt, paint and construct many forms of art. She loved butterflies and spending time in her garden of many flowers. She never lost her love for the game of golf. She ran a ladies golf group, "Swing" and would follow the LPGA on the various tours around the world as a member of the media. Mary was a humble woman and always tried to give back to her community through her working with LGBTQ groups and volunteering at the local soup kitchen. She made an impact on everyone she came across and will be sorely missed by all.

Mary was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillian Finlay. She was the loving mother of Theresa Menice of Taunton and Jeffrey Porter of Taunton. She was the devoted grandmother of David, Devin, Ryan and Hayleigh and was fortunate enough to have a great grandchild, Logan. Mary was the sister of Robert Finlay of ME and the late David Finlay and Stuart Finlay. She also leaves behind many extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitaiton in memory of Mary on Saturday October 14, 2023 from 12-3PM in the MacKinnon Funeral Home (760 Washington St Whitman). A funeral Service will immediately follow the visitation at 3PM in the Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
