Whitman

Meredith Leonard, 86, of Whitman, passed away December 22, 2022, after a period of declining health.  She was the wife of the late Norman Leonard and the daughter of the late Ernest and Bertha (Reed) Clark.  Meredith was the loving mother of Paul Leonard and his wife, Marsha of Plymouth, William Leonard, who passed away as a baby, and Bradford Leonard and his wife, Kerry of Middleboro. She was the adoring “Grammie” to Holly Leonard, Christina Leonard, Alyssa Leonard and Amy Colebrooke.  Meredith was “Great-Grammie” to Christina’s daughter, Isabel.  She was the beloved sister of the late E. Irene (Clark) White and Cheryl Clark of Whitman.

Meredith was born at her paternal grandmother’s house in Whitman and grew up on Alden St. with her sister Irene in the maternal family home, which they shared with their grandparents and parents.  While she and her sister were in high school, her sister, Cheryl, was born.  Meredith graduated from Whitman High School.

Meredith and Norman had their first son while residing in Whitman.  She belonged to the Whitman Mothers’ Club.  They moved to Bryantville and had their third son, Bradford, while living there.  Eventually, they moved to Norman’s family home in Elmwood.

She loved to eat and believed there was always room for dessert, and she was renowned for her American Chop Suey and baked apples, which brought much joy during yearly Columbus Day weekend camping trips to New Hampshire and Vermont.  Meredith was a cancer survivor for thirty-one years.

Meredith’s life centered around her family.  She enjoyed Sunday drives, camping, trips to Canada, especially a Clark family reunion on Prince Edward Island with her son, Paul, his wife Marsha, her four grandchildren, her father and sisters.  After her children were grown, Meredith went to work at McDonald’s and Burger King in Bridgewater.

Meredith loved country and western music and was able to enjoy concerts by Dolly Parton and Reba McIntire at Tanglewood with her son, Bradford, his wife, Kerry, and her sister, Cheryl.
