Myrna Ina McCarthy (Martz), 88, beloved mother of John, Steven and David McCarthy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Myrna was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Francis “Fran” McCarthy, in 2000.
Born in Davison, Michigan on March 28th, 1937, Myrna was the daughter of the late John and Onalee Martz. After graduating college in Michigan, Myrna began an exciting chapter of her life as a Flight Attendant for TWA Airlines. Myrna traveled throughout the world developing a lifelong love for Madrid, which she visited many times. While working as a Flight Attendant Myrna lived in New York City, and then Boston. In Boston, Myrna met Fran and the two were married in March of 1963. The newly married couple lived briefly in Switzerland before returning to the States and settling in Sudbury, where they raised their family. Above all, Myrna loved her family and spending time with them. Myrna and Fran shared 37 happily married years together, creating wonderful memories with each other and their children. Summers were spent in Sudbury by the pool and winters spent skiing and hiking in New Hampshire. Myrna was happiest when they were all together.
While devoted to raising her three boys, Myrna also embraced her creative side through photography. What began as a small photography business grew into her beloved note card company, Copley Prints, known for its colorful floral images - especially sunflowers, her favorite.
Myrna loved being a grandmother. Her grandchildren will fondly remember simple suppers, baking cookies, drawing, going for walks, and countless hours playing together at Grammy’s.
By her friends and anyone who had the chance to know her, Myrna will be remembered as a kind, caring, and generous person who always put others first. Her warmth, creativity, and quiet thoughtfulness touched many lives.
Myrna is survived by her sons, John McCarthy of Newbury, New Hampshire; Steven McCarthy (Susan) and their children, Maggie and Thomas of Hopkinton, MA; and David McCarthy (Kristen) and their children, Gaby and Anna of Southborough, MA; her sister, Greta Temple of Chesaning, MI; her brother, Timothy Martz (Ellen) of Chesaning, MI; And many nieces and nephews.
