Patrick Smith

April 22, 1934 — April 24, 2020

Patrick William Smith, loving, long-time partner of 35 years to Elizabeth McCarthy of Lynn, MA, loving Father to Eileen Smith of Medford, MA, Phyllis Smith Chopelas of Derry, NH, and April Smith Bean of Sharon, Vermont, and grandfather to Stephen Chopelas of Manchester, NH and Mark Chopelas of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, at the age of 86 years old.

Patrick grew up in Newark, New Jersey, was the son of Agnes and George Smith, brother of Barbara, George, and Joan, and had several nieces and nephews.  He served four years in the United States Marine Corp.  He owned Smith Painting and Wallpaper Hanging Co. for over forty years, took great pride in his work, and loved what he did as a career.  Patrick was a talented artist, painting murals, signs, and other beautiful drawings.  He enjoyed reading and watching history, and attending flea markets and yard sales with Elizabeth.  His sense of humor, funny facial expressions, and cheerful laugh, could light up a room.  He had a calming singing voice, and could whistle dixie like no other.  He was a kind and caring father to all three daughters, taking them everywhere a kid would want to go, amusement parks, movies, fishing, walks in the woods, the beach, or just a long ride to get out in the fresh air in the back of his station wagon with their friends.  He was known by many to sit on his front porch, chatting to most who walked by, making plenty of friends in the process.  He was a wonderful grandfather to his two grandsons and his extended family, and loved his little dog Jo Jo.

A celebration of life will be held in private with family members in the future.
