Robert Macdonald

Robert Anthony MacDonald of Rockland passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023 at the age of 85. Bob was raised and educated in Dorchester, and joined the United States Army and fought in the Korean conflict. After completing his military service Bob worked various jobs, finally ending his working career retiring with the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

Bob was a very crafty and hardworking man. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking and exploring. He was an avid reader and talented woodworker. Above all else Bob loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished every moment he got to spend with them.

Bob was the loving husband of 56 years of Joyce (Fowler) MacDonald of Rockland. He was the devoted father of Scott MacDonald and his wife Kim of Rockland, their children Brian, Drew, Tyler and Jeffrey MacDonald and his wife Erin of Hanson and their children Kate and Sean. Bob was predeceased by his parents Archibald and Ruth (Skinner) MacDonald, siblings Claire Nicholson, Joan Grillo and Charles MacDonald and leaves behind his siblings Ruth Hopkins of Saco, ME, Pauline Long and her husband Bill Horner of Bryantville, MA, Barbara Wolfreys and her husband William of Abington, MA and brother-in-law Gerald Grillo of Naples, FL. Bob also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Bob on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 3-5 pm in the MacKinnon Funeral Home (760 Washington St. Whitman). A memorial service will take place immediately following the visitation at 5 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the National Forest Foundation or Beacon Hospice.
