Stephen J. Scipione Sr., died surrounded by his family, on March 12 th , after a valiant, 4-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71.
Steve is survived by his wife Nancy (Chandler) Scipione of Marshfield, and his children Stephen Scipione of Taunton, Robert Chadwell and wife Kerry Chadwell of Brockton. Kelly Wordell of Lewiston, ME. Stacey Flaherty and husband Tom Flaherty of Carver. Stephanie Mazza and husband Derek Mazza of Marshfield. Grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 5 brothers, 4 sisters and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Steve enjoyed racing cars in his younger years, He would fix them then race them all over New England. He continued his joy, as he loved building his model cars. Every time the doorbell would ring, we would know it was another model being delivered. He used to joke and hide them from his wife.
He was passionate about pickles and black olives and would say they needed to be at all family events, claiming it would not be a holiday without them. Don’t worry Dad they will always be there. He loved his sweets and nothing was going to stop him from having a cupcake or a rum cake from Guarino’s.
But what he will be most remembered for is his strength. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only months after being diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, he didn’t get upset or give up. He just said he is going to kick cancer’s ass again. Which he did for the next 4 and a half years.
He loved his family more than anything and taught us all the definition of love, family and loyalty. He loved spending time together having coffee then sneaking off to the couch to get in a quick nap. He loved having all of us together.
