Walter "Wally" John Glover

Walter John Glover "Wally," age 82, of Norton, was taken home to heaven by his Lord and Savior on December 7th, 2025 after a courageous battle with heart disease and vascular dementia. Walter was born on June 2, 1943, to the late Walter and Dorothy (White) Glover. He is predeceased by his beloved brother and sister.

Walter lived a life of dedication and service to his country and local community. He proudly served for six years in the United States Army during the Korea and Vietnam eras. Following his military service, Walter devoted more than 37 years to the Weymouth Fire Department, retiring as Senior Lieutenant.

His commitment to protecting others was matched by his compassion for fellow veterans, whom he served faithfully at the Brockton Veterans Center. He loved giving back and caring for them. He delighted in meticulously hand-crafting each vet a custom service beaded necklace. His greatest and most important mission was helping them all feel honored, loved, and “welcomed home."

Walter was a man of strength and perseverance. He was a selfless servant, a devoted provider, and a loving father and grandfather. His humor, kindness, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ touched all who knew him. He found joy and fellowship with his church family at Bristol Bible Church in Norton, where his faith was nurtured.

To those closest to him, he was “Papa”—so cherished that the name became what everyone knew him by. It wasn’t just a title: it was a reflection of the way he loved, cared, and brought warmth to every life he touched.

Papa lived a life marked by kindness, humility, and quiet strength. He taught us the value of hard work and the beauty of being present for the people you love. But above all, Papa treasured his family—and nothing meant more to him than his four grandsons. They were his world, his pride, his joy. Every story he told and every smile he shared seemed to circle back to them.

To his grandsons, he was more than a grandfather. He was their hero, their protector, their biggest fan, and their steady reminder that they were deeply loved. To friends, neighbors, and anyone lucky enough to cross his path, he was simply “Papa”—a man whose gentleness, humor, and ready smile made everyone feel like family.

His family is deeply grateful for the love and devotion shown to Walter at the end of his life. Special thanks are extended to the Massachusetts VA System, Roxbury VA Hospital, and most especially the Bedford VA, where Walter spent his final year. The phenomenal team there cared for him with genuine love, working tirelessly for his health and happiness.

Walter is survived and greatly missed by his son Eric, daughter-in-law Amy, his grandsons Liam, Eli, Asher, and Silas Glover and many loving friends and extended family.

A memorial service will be conducted by his Bristol Bible Church family on a date yet to be determined.
