Winifred M. (Roberts) Grotevant of Whitman passed away August 19, 2019. Born March 27, 1928 in Utica, NY. Winifred was the only child of Thomas Roscoe Roberts of Marcy, NY and Marion Milburn Murdock of West Exeter, NY. She attended Utica schools and graduated from Utica Free Academy. She was a member of the UFAA Capella Choir. Winifred graduated from SUNY Potsdam (BA) and Syracuse University (MA). She married William Bird Grotevant in 1950 in Westminster Presbyterian Church (Utica, NY). She was a teacher and librarian, having worked as Administrator of the Cazenovia College Library (Cazenovia, NY). In addition, she was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Huntley Family National Association, and the New Hartford, Presbyterian Church (New Hartford, NY) where she sang in the church choir for many years. She was reference librarian at Hingham Public Library (Hingham, MA) and retired in 2002. She is survived by four children: William R. Grotevant (Sandwich, MA), Mark L. Grotevant (New Rochelle, NY), Nancy A. DeGirolamo (Whitman, MA) and Amy E. Sharon (Chelmsford, MA); as well as eight grandchildren:
Emma G. Sharon, Walter G. Sharon, Christopher M. DeGirolamo, Jonathan F. DeGirolamo, Evan Grotevant, Gregory H. Grotevant, Kyle B. Grotevant, Alexander G. Grotevant and one great-granddaughter, Cecelia Mae Grotevant.
Visiting hours for friends and family in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Wednesday August 21st 7-8 pm.
Private service to follow for family at 8 pm.
Burial to be held at a later date in NY.
