Alfreda Vancor

Alfreda A. (LaBrecque) VanCor of Whitman passed away October 5, 2010 at her home in Whitman after a period of failing health. She was 92. Beloved wife of the late Arthur R. VanCor. She was born in Rumford, Maine where she attended schools there and graduated from Stephens High School. She later moved to Randolph in 1938. She managed the Cameo Theater in Weymouth for several years. She was also worked for Chase & Sons in Randolph for over 20 years before retiring. She has been a resident of Whitman since 1953. She was served as a board member of the Whitman Council of Aging, and also on the Board of Directors of Self Help in Avon. She was an avid bowler. She loved to knit and loved spending time with her children.

She is survived by her children Edward W. VanCor of Whitman, Peter A. VanCor of Woodstock, VT and Barbara J. Almedia of Pembroke. Sister of Rita Joughin of Randolph, Norman LaBrecque of Tacoma, WA, Alton LaBrecque of Clearwater, FL and the late Gertrude Barkhouse, Ray and Boivin LaBrecque. Also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St. WHITMAN on Friday Oct. 8 th 4-8 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday in Holy Ghost Church at 9 am. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Interment at Central Cemetery in Randolph.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Alfreda’s memory to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay state Dr., P.O. Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185
