Arthur Cabral, Jr.

September 7, 1932 — September 22, 2020

Arthur S. Cabral Jr. of Whitman passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Eleanor M (Sylvia) Cabral. Arthur was the loving father of Arthur S. Cabral and his wife Denise of West Bridgewater. Brother of Cynthia Vandenburgh of Westport, Loving Grandfather of Valerie and her husband Samuel of Mansfield and Diana and her husband Brad of Lyman, ME. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arthur was proud of his military service and of being an Army Veteran serving his country during The Korean War.

Arthur was born in New Bedford and was a practicing Catholic all of his life. He graduated from Boston University in 1959 and would go on to marry his wife Eleanor later that same year. They moved to Brockton in 1960 where they welcomed their son in 1961, later moving to Whitman in 1983. After becoming a CPA in 1962 he worked for a variety of large and small accounting firms before “retiring” at 65. As a retiree, he proceeded to open his own accounting and tax business and continued to work through the years until officially deciding to retire at the end of the 2020 tax season. Always involved in his local community, he volunteered at numerous organizations most recently as coordinator for the Us TOO Brockton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group for over 20 years and as the long term treasurer of the Friends of the Whitman Public Library tirelessly working on fundraising efforts. For over 40 years, neither wind, nor rain, nor snow would prevent Arthur from making the trip to Union Street Lanes in Holbrook to join the Monday Night Strikers in his favorite pastime of bowling. He was a fixture on Friday nights at the Black Hat Brew Works enjoying craft beer and playing cribbage with his son. At home, Arthur found joy in the simple things like keeping the bird feeders and birdbaths fully stocked for abundant bird watching in the backyard, meticulously cleaning the pool before enjoying a nice swim on a hot summer day, and remembering to slow down at the end of the day to sip a perfectly stirred martini. Arthur will be sincerely missed by many especially by his loving wife who will love him always, MTY-LTT.
