Barbara (Horsman) Iverson White
June 5, 1943 – October 12, 2020
Barbara was an adventurous woman who was loved, is missed and will always be cherished.
Barbara grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts to parents who encouraged her spirit and love of nature. Daughter of Hamilton Horsman an avid pilot, Barbara at 4 years old accompanied her father on many of his flights which delighted Barbara and instilled a sense of wonder and love of travel. Her mother Ruth Horsman worked as a buyer for Jordan Marsh's Town and Country division a job which she loved.
After high school, in June 1960, Barbara married Alan Iverson and together they had three children Mark, Eric, and Heidi. Alan was the love of her life. They shared many happy memories with their children that included boating in Buzzards' Bay and frequently dropping anchor at Elizabeth's Islands, Cuttyhunk, Nantucket, and Race Point. Their family also enjoyed skiing and traveling around Europe.
She worked as a real estate agent while assisting her husband (who was a master builder and designer) with interior design for his many period and unique custom homes that he built and restored. Sadly, Alan passed away in 1980 with cancer.
In June 1983 she married Captain John R. White an MIT Graduate, naval captain, and professor. They had a lovely life together and enjoyed extensive travel all over the globe.
Several years into their marriage, they moved to Maine and built a camp and spent many years enjoying family and friends. For Barbara these were especially happy times. They enjoyed skiing and boating excursions from Fisher Island to Bar Harbor and stopped at many wonderful ports along the way.
A life-long learner Barbara returned to school at Bay State College and received her Associate's Degree in Science. Her goal was to work in the field of patient advocacy where she had a strong belief that people's rights should always be respected.
When Captain White passed away in 2012, she moved back to Massachusetts to be with her children and grandchildren.
Barbara was an accomplished equestrian along with her family which included 5 generations of equestrians. She had both pleasure horses and show horses of her own and boarded race horses.
She loved all animals and they were a big part of her life. Her dogs could always be found by her side.
She had a verve for entertaining and her gourmet cooking mastery invited surprised guests for evening dinners that often led to impromptu celebrations. Barbara believed that life should be celebrated.
Loved ones that will miss Barbara until they meet again are her children, grandchildren, and dearest friends.
