Daniel Jenkins

July 21, 1945 — October 17, 2012

Daniel G. Jenkins, age 67, most recently of Weymouth, died suddenly on Wednesday, October 17 th at South Shore Hospital. He was born and raised in Scituate, the son of the late Charles F. and Mary Ellen (Gallagher) Jenkins. He was a stand-out wrestler during his high school career with the Scituate Sailors taking the 1963 State Championship in his weight class. He was a proud member of the class of '63. Dan was a true renaissance man with success in many varied careers. He plied his culinary skills in many of the restaurants that formerly spanned Front Street, from the Bell Bouy to the Harborside. He spent many years in furniture retail from Ferdinand's of Boston to Kincaid's that used to stand in Quincy Center. Retiring from retail, he gave free reign to his entrepreneurial spirit and started many small business ventures that encompassed everything from handy-man services to fabric protection. Over the past 10 years, he dedicated himself to the pursuit of his greatest interest, genealogy. Dan was a renowned researcher who spent many hours and traveled great distances to find every leaf on a family tree. He was not content to learn only of his own heritage. A simple enquiry or a remark made in passing would set him off on the trail of a new genealogical mystery waiting to be solved. He was instrumental in establishing a memorial stone recognizing the Men of Kent Cemetery as Scituate's oldest and most historically significant cemetery. His research on the Men of Kent was received with such acclaim that he was invited to travel to Kent England to speak to The Association of the Men of Kent and Kentish Men.

He is loved and survived by his wife of 46 years, M. Jean McAdams-Jenkins. He will be missed by his 6 children, Kathleen and her husband Tim Brown of Kingston, Daniel of Abington, Matthew and his wife Lauren (Mahoney) of Plymouth, Mary Bailey and her husband James Hughes of Franklin, Philip and his wife Neyla (Mela) of Stafford, Virginia and Sarah and her husband Robb Hicks of Kingston. His 16 grandchildren will always have the history that their Da has left them. He has left his wife and children with a detailed lineage of the Jenkins family going back nearly a millennium. Also survived by a sister Rosemary Varga, and two brothers Paul and Charles, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 AM at Glad Tidings Church, Washington Street, Quincy MA.
