David McCarthy,78, died July 12, 2011 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He was born in Framingham to the late Evelyn G. and James P. McCarthy and is survived by his wife of 49 years Elizabeth (Nicky) L. McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy graduated from Framingham High School and served in the Korean War in the Air Force. He was an active member of Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was a deacon and member of the men’s Bible study.  He was a building contractor in the Framingham area and was a Building Committee member and clerk of the works at Cameron School.  His hobbies included railroading, building model HO & N gauge train boards, and doing crossword puzzles. He retired to Centerville on Cape Cod in 2004. There he served at Christ Chapel for six years in the choir, Gleaners ministry, and the men’s Bible study. Eight months ago he relocated to Concord Health Care Center. He was devoted to his Lord, his church, and his family. Besides his wife, Mr. McCarthy leaves children Paula Richardson of Paxton, Scott McCarthy of New Salem, Bruce McCarthy of Holden, and Derek McCarthy of Acton. He was brother to the late James V., Richard H., Gerald, Irene (Mele), and Patricia M. (Appleton). He is survived by brothers John P. of Athol, Bruce L. of Rutland, Wayne A. of Framingham, sisters Emma (Varrichione), and Rosalie (Yerardi), both of Framingham, and grandson Stephen Richardson. Mr. McCarthy was step-father to Leslie Bates, Daryl Hoitt, and Douglas Breed, and grandfather to Gwendolyn, Jennifer, Kathryn, Kristin, Ernest, Andrew, Maxwell, and Samuel.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday July 19 th at 2:00 pm at Trinitarian Congregational Church on Rt. 126 in Wayland. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to the charity of your choice.
