Dean Andersen

April 8, 1947 — April 16, 2021

Dean Richard Andersen, (74), of Swampscott passed away Friday, April 16, 2021. The son of the late Ty and Eleanor (Richards) Andersen.

Dean is predeceased in life by his parents, and his sister Johanne Massey. His legacy is carried on through his Brother-in-law Richard Massey, Brother Ty Andersen and wife Deb, nephews Rick Massey, Mike Massey, Peter Massey, Jeff Massey, nieces Jennifer Teknipp, Julee Kunc, Jessica Carter, and his Goddaughter, Lauren Nicholas.

Dean was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, but was a lifelong resident of Swampscott. He graduated from Swampscott High School in 1965, then attended Northeastern University on a hockey scholarship, graduating with a degree in business.  After college he worked with his father in a landscaping business which eventually became the Dean Andersen Landscaping Company.

Dean loved life and lived it to the fullest. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for his friends. Dean was Dean, if you knew him you would understand, and everyone who knew him has a “Dean Story”.

Dean was passionate about sports. Growing up he could play them all.  His teammates would tell you; “Dean wasn’t a good athlete; he was a great athlete”.  It was no surprise he excelled in Hockey at Swampscott High, Northeastern University, New England Hockey League, and a tryout invitation with the U.S. Olympic team. This past year he was inducted into the Swampscott High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

An avid golfer, Dean would play anytime, anyplace, with a special fondness for the Wednesday Night League and the guys he played with at Kelley Greens in Nahant.

Please keep Dean in your prayers, when the time is right, Dean’s life will be celebrated with a Dean Andersen Memorial Golf Tournament, and those stories will be told.
