Edward Zipeto

July 30, 1947 — May 15, 2021

Edward A. Zipeto of Brockton Passed away May 15, 2021. For all of his 73 years, Ed Zipeto lived a life of kindness, friendship, giving and civic mindedness.

Ed was a Vietnam Veteran who earned the Purple Heart.  He came home to become a competent specialist working for the FBI as a fingerprint reader – before the reading was computerized.  He then moved to the Buffalo, NY area where he worked for Goodwill Industries, the Boy Scouts, the United Way and the American Red Cross.  For a time he studied for the priesthood with the Missionary Oblates of  Mary Immaculate. Unfortunately, Ed suffered health setbacks that affected the strength of his heart forcing him to give up his desire to become a priest.  However, Ed was able to complete his Bachelor’s degree from the Oblate College in Washington, DC.

Ed continued his volunteer work in the Washington, DC area by helping the homeless, AID’s victims, and working for the Veterans Association and Catholic Charities.  A devout Catholic, he also served three years on his local Parish Council.  While working for FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and long after he retired, he helped new immigrants learn English and assisted homeless veterans.  He was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and all the other New England/Boston teams.  Ed enjoyed Boy Scouts and his summers at Camp Squanto.  His family will remember him as the one who always made a family gathering fun, whether it was his telling of stories, his love of Miss Piggy or his wrapping of all his gifts in the Sunday comics.  His physical heart may have been weak, but his loving heart touched and lifted up countless people.  He will be sorely missed.

His family welcomes you to celebrate his memory at the MacKinnon Funeral Home in Whitman on Friday, May 21 from 6-8 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 22 at Holy Ghost Church at 9 am, followed by internment at St. James Cemetery in Whitman.
