Flora Scalia

Flora L Scalia (born Fiorina L Veltri), 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brooksby Village on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.

Born in Pennsylvania on Oct. 5, 1920, Flora was the daughter of Joseph and Carmella Veltri. In her teen years she moved with her family to Maryland where she met and married Michael Scalia. In 1957, they moved to Nahant, MA, where she would reside for almost 50 years.

Michael and Flora raised 4 boys together before his death in 1984. In 2004, Flora moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, to be closer to her family. An avid gardener, Flora had a passion for birdwatching, sewing, quilting, singing and spending time with her beloved family.

She was loved and appreciated as a dedicated, kind, and generous wife, mother and grandmother.

Flora is survived by her 4 sons, Gregory Scalia of Beverly, MA, James Scalia of Charlotte, NC, Michael and Rose Scalia of Danvers, MA, and John and Sandra Scalia of Bethune, SC, as well as her grandchildren, Ariana Dragani of Dracut, MA, and Michael Scalia of Danvers, MA.

A private family ceremony will be held to remember and bury Flora along with her husband in Nahant, MA. In accord with Flora's wishes, In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to My Brother's Table, 98 Willow St., Lynn, MA 01901.
