Geraldine Mary (Trzcinka) Norton

January 5, 1942 - September 19, 2021

Geraldine Norton, 79,  of South Dennis, MA, formerly of Wethersfield, CT, passed peacefully at home after previously triumphing over a lung cancer diagnosis for nearly 3 years. She was the loving wife of Harold (Pete) Norton. Born in Clinton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Trzcinka and Mary (Ponyta) Trzcinka.

Gerry graduated from East Hartford High School and received her Associate’s Degree from the University of Hartford. She worked as a secretary for several years before starting a family.

Gerry had a love for children and animals. She volunteered in her daughters’ elementary school, served as a Brownie leader, and later worked at Wethersfield High School. No animal was ever unwelcome in her home. Dogs from the pound, lost kittens, orphaned baby squirrels, and even a fledgling catbird found in the neighbor’s yard flourished under her loving care.

She enjoyed traveling and she and Pete spent many winters in Anguilla and Florida and summers on Cape Cod where they moved full time in 2012. On the Cape, she loved the camaraderie of her friends in her candlepin bowling league and gleefully celebrated every score under 100. She also loved sitting on the banks of Bass River, watching the boats sail by with Pete. She will be missed always.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Kim Norton-O’Brien (Keith) and Sherri Norton, grandchildren Connor O’Brien and Sawyer O’Brien, sisters Pamela Yurgel (Stephen) and Valerie Ratchford (Michael), and much loved nieces, cousins, and friends.

The family wishes to thank her medical and hospice team and family friend Kate O’Brien for her loving care.

A celebration of Gerry’s life will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 12-3 pm at the home of Kim Norton-O’Brien and Keith O’Brien in South Yarmouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to the Animal Rescue League at 3981 Main St., Brewster, MA 02631 or at www.arlboston.org.
