Joe Gillespie

Joe W. Gillespie was born February 17, 1952 in Shannon, North Carolina, to the late

Joe J. Gillespie and Rosie S. Gillespie. At an early age, Joe confessed Christ as His Lord and Savior. He joined St. John’s Baptist Church, Shannon, N. C., where he participated in the Usher’s Ministry and sang in the Men’s Choir. Joe graduated from Oakridge School, Lumber bridge, N. C. He worked as skilled worker, for many years, in a manufacturing company in Red Springs and Lumberton, N. C. He then migrated from Shannon, N. C. to Boston, Massachusetts, 40+ years ago, where he met his wife Viola V. Harrington Gillespie of 27 years.

He worked for the City of Boston as a Custodian, for many years until he retired a few years ago. Joe was skilled with his hands. In his spare time, he created landscapes, gardening, and carpentry, enjoyed attending church and serving God’s people.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Mrs. Viola H. Harrington Gillespie, two sons, Mr. Demond Gillespie (Sherri N.) of Clayton, N. C. and Mr. William Gillespie of Lumberton, N. C., and one stepson, Mr. Nathaniel Myers, Jr. of Rocky Mount, N. C.; four grandchildren: DeAngelo M. Gillespie, Gernesha N. Gillespie, Belinda I. Gillespie and Demond M. Gillespie, Jr.; a brother, Mr. Wilbert L. Gillespie. He is preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Earl Gillespie. He also leaves to mourn his passing are a host of relatives and friends

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at MacKinnon Funeral Home at 790 Washington St, Whitman, MA
