Joseph Mcdonald

September 29, 1945 — May 30, 2021

Joseph McDonald, 75, of Holbrook passed away peacefully May 30, 2021 with family by his side. Born and raised in Boston, MA. He was a graduate of Gate of Heaven High School. He worked as a steel worker for many years at Barnstead Company, followed by several years as an employee at the Boston Herald. When he was semi-retired, he worked security for Dunkin' corporation. Papa Joe, as he was affectionately called by family and beyond, didn't have a lot of hobbies. He was an unassuming guy who loved the simple things in life like sitting in the sun and enjoying a fresh cold cut sandwich. He was an avid Boston sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots. He had friends at all his daily stops - from the grocery store and gas station to the coffee shop and corner store. He always had a smile and a joke on hand. He loved dogs and had a natural connection with them. He absolutely missed his calling in life as a dog trainer. His favorite hobby, though, was his family. He was a devoted husband to Betty for 53 years, a loving Dad, and had an extra special love for his grandchildren whom he would never fail to make laugh with his Papa jokes, or amaze by pulling coins out of their ears. He was proud of his Irish heritage, he loved his Irish music and St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Christmas, though, was probably his favorite holiday of all. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Elizabeth “Betty” (Callahan) McDonald. His children Laura Branco, and her spouse Luis Branco, Brian McDonald and his spouse Sofiya Ivanova, and Jennifer DiLorenzo and her spouse Donna DiLorenzo. Brother of John McDonald, and the late James McDonald, Frances (McDonald) O’Brien and Mary (McDonald) Limerick. Also survived by his grandchildren Drew, Max, Viktor, Jasmine, Frankie, Josie and Danny.

Services will be held at a later date.
