Margaret "Peg" Mcgillivray

Margaret (Peggy) McGillivray of Whitman, died suddenly at Brockton Hospital on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.  Born on September 27, 1939, the daughter of the late Alex and Margaret McGillivray.  Peg was born and raised in Dorchester and attended St. Marks elementary schools and graduated from Dorchester High class of 1957.  Peg was a longtime resident of Whitman.  Peg dedicated 25 years working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Committee for Public Counsel.  Prior to her retirement, Peg proudly served the town of Whitman in many capacities.  She began her service to the town serving on the Democratic Town Committee, Finance Committee (1984-1990) and then on the Board of Selectman (1995-1998) and 2001 until her passing.  She was the liaison between the Board of Selectmen and the Fire Dept. Peg enjoyed playing cards with the gang, cooking for friends, family and The Whitman Fire Dept.  Peg so enjoyed every moment she lived in Whitman and dedicated her time to many other causes in the best interest of the town.  She was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church in Whitman.

Peg is survived by loving sister and best friend Mary Fries of Whitman, brother Raymond McGillivray of Quincy.  She is predeceased by her siblings Joseph McGillivray formerly of Rockland, John McGillivray formerly of Dorchester and Frances (Re Re) Hogan formerly of Quincy.  She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, October 21 st from 4-8pm at the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St. Whitman.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 11:00am.

Interment at St. James Cemetery in Whitman.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Peg’s name to Catholic Charities, 157 Centre St., Brockton, MA 02302.
