Maureen Gannon McKenna, 74, passed away peacefully at home on May 17 th , 2022.

Maureen was born on October 15th, 1947 and grew up in Groton, Massachusetts.  She was a graduate of Groton Dunstable Regional High School and Fitchburg State University and worked for many years as a special education teacher.  She spent most of her life in Brimfield, Massachusetts where she raised her three children.  She was an avid antiquer and enjoyed visiting the Brimfield flea market each year to search for treasures.  In 2006, Maureen moved to Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico to act as a caregiver for her parents, Joan and Phil Blood.  She was an active member of the local animal rescue league and hospice volunteer while in New Mexico.  She moved back to Massachusetts after spending ten years in New Mexico on the banks of the Rio Grande River at her family’s long loved bed and breakfast, Chinguague Compound.  She lived with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren until her death.  Nothing made Maureen happier than spending time with family.

Maureen loved children and animals.  She ran her own home daycare for several years and volunteered with animal rescue organizations throughout her life.  It was not unusual for Maureen to be seen trying to help a turtle cross the road or picking up abandoned kittens.  She was a talented jeweler and loved art.  Her laugh was infectious and her signature red hair was her unofficial trademark.  Maureen made friends wherever she went and would give anyone in need her last dollar.  Maureen held various jobs throughout her life, but her favorite role was that of a devoted mother.

Maureen is survived by her children: Dr. Amanda Peer, Ethan Kopacz, and Sarah Kommineni, Esq; along with their spouses: Carl Peer, Nicole Kopacz, and Srinivas Kommineni; and her five grandchildren: Connor, Abigail and Bradley Peer, Nora Kopacz, and Maxwell Kommineni.  She is also survived by her brother Kevin McKenna, along with many friends and relatives.

Maureen is predeceased by her parents Richard McKenna, Joan “JB” Blood, and Philip Blood; as well as her sister, Kathleen, and brother Michael.

The family will hold a private ceremony.  We invite you to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
