Robert Coughlin

March 5, 1957 — August 3, 2020

Robert Allen Coughlin (63) of Rockland passed away on August 3, 2020 from a long battle of cancer.  Robert (Bob, Bobby) Coughlin grew up in Whitman, MA and was one of nine siblings.

In his younger years, Bobby enjoyed building and racing cars in NH.  He would often be found fishing, camping and spending time with his family.  He enjoyed playing cards, taking trips to Foxwoods and backyard family barbecues.

In his later years, Bobby enjoyed spending much of his time at the Whitman American Legion Post 22 and was known to many as the guy who would help anyone.  He loved to make food and bring it to events or give a ride to someone in need.  His sarcastic personality and quick wit left those he surrounded always smiling and laughing.   Bobby loved Boston sports, and on most days wore a hat or shirt representing one of his favorite teams, typically the New England Patriots.

Throughout his 5 year fight with cancer, and enduring several rounds of treatment, he showed his family and friends the meaning of true strength.   It is his strength that will live on in the lives of his family and friends, especially his grandchildren who lit his life up with their hugs and laughter.   He loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially sharing pizza and rocking them to sleep.

Bobby is predeceased by his beloved wife Linda Hughes Coughlin, father, Richard Coughlin, sister, Lynne Faria, and brothers Johnny Coughlin and William Coughlin.

He is survived by mother, Edith Sullivan, sons Patrick Coughlin (wife Jodi Coughlin), Bobby Coughlin (Mike Legere), Keith Coughlin (Stephanie Doughty), and Scott Smith (Heather Salvucci), brothers Richard Coughlin, Michael Coughlin, Brooks Coughlin, sisters Sharon Bradshaw, April Coughlin, and his beloved grandchildren Cora and Asher Coughlin.  Bobby had many friends that are too numerous to count, but had a special place in his heart in the last few years of his life for companion, Christie McKnight.

A celebration of life will be held at the Whitman American Legion Post 22 when it is socially safe to do so.   Donations can be made to The American Lung Association at www.lung.org .
