Roger J Dunne of Whitman, age 96 formerly of Needham died November 17, 2011 at the Signature Brockton Hospital. Husband of the late Georgia (Lyons) Dunne. He was born and raised in South Boston, son of the late John J and Ellen (Connolly) Dunne. He was a graduate of Boston English High School, and attended Boston University and Burdett College. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a Captain and he was an Infantry Company Commander during the Battle of the Bulge, Southern France, and Germany. During the Korean War he served in the Transportation Corps. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Medal, Korean Conflict Medal and others. He retired as a Major. He worked as the Asst. Manager of the Transportation Depot. Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Revere Sugar Refinery, and the Walker Lab. He was a charter member and Past Commander of the Paul J. Saunders Post # 383, American Legion, So. Boston. Life member of the Disabled American Veterans, So. Boston Memorial Chapter 22. Former member of the South Boston Knights of Columbus.

Brother of the late Rev. John J. Dunne, Alice G. Daunt, and Mary Hiteshew. He is survived by his nieces and nephews Jean Cox of Fairfax, VA, Mary Ellen Langan of Fenwick DE, and Gregory Hiteshew of Frederick, MD.

Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Sunday Nov. 20 th 4-7 pm.

Funeral Mass Monday in Holy Ghost Church in Whitman at 9 am.

Interment at St. James Cemetery in Whitman.
