Sally L. (Flagg) Aldrich

October 29, 1936 ~ June 4, 2022 (age 85)

Obituary

Sally Louise (Flagg) Aldrich, 85, died on June 4 after a brief illness.  Sally was the eldest child of the late Francis H. Flagg and Lucile (Benson) Flagg.  Except for spending 6 years in Northampton, MA., Sally spent the rest of her life in the Elmwood section of East Bridgewater.  Sally was the Salutatorian of her Class of 1954 at East Bridgewater High School.  During her school years, Sally sang soprano in a local a cappella singing group called the "Tune-Agers,"  best known for their appearance on WBZ's  "Community Auditions" in 1954.  Aside from winning 1st prize on that program, the group sang at many local venues. â€‹Sally graduated from UMass.-Amherst in 1958, earning an AB degree.  Shortly after moving to Elmwood, she became a Teacher's Aide at the Central School in East Bridgewater.  She went on to become Postmaster of the Elmwood Post Office, becoming the last of four generations of Postmasters in the Flagg family.

Sally will be remembered for her beautiful smile as she greeted her customers, always willing to lend a helping hand. Sally was a former member of the Women's Club of East Bridgewater and a member of the East Bridgewater Historical Society.  She was also a member of the Elmwood New Church, where she served on various committees throughout the years.  Until recently, Sally attended weekly luncheons with her friends, many E.B classmates, who will miss her dearly.  Twelve years ago she was reacquainted with David Howard, her High School prom date, who remained a close friend and companion.

Sally leaves behind three daughters:  Bonnie Aldrich of Arizona, and Lisa and Julie Aldrich of Elmwood.  She is also survived by two grandchildren,  her brother, David Flagg and his wife Donna of Pennsylvania,  Loren Flagg and his wife Sandra of Alaska, and her sister Susan Poole and her husband Jerry of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on September 17th from 1-5 pm at the Elmwood New Church, 20 West Street, Elmwood, MA 02337
