Veronica Tutunjian

Veronica M. Buteau, 78, of Scituate passed away unexpectedly at her home in Scituate, MA. Veronica was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy Buteau of Greenfield, MA. Veronica is survived by her son, Damon Tutunjian, and his wife, Josefin Ekström, of Malmö, Sweden, and her daughter, Kara Tutunjian, of Arlington, MA; her sister, Michelina Hurd, and her husband, Tom, of Annapolois, MD; her brother, Anthony Buteau, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Manchester, NH, and her brother, Gregory Buteau, and his wife, Beatrice, of Cherry Valley, MA; her grandchildren, Juliette and Laura Ekström; and her nieces and nephew, Josephine Buteau, Rachael Lavigne, and Christopher Buteau. Veronica was predeceased by her three brothers, Thomas Buteau, Bernard Buteau, and Stephen Buteau; and by her nephew, Joseph Buteau.

Veronica was an energetic, industrious, and creative person. Some of her favorite activities included walking on the beach, craft projects, listening to music, painting, gardening, and working in her yard. When her children were young, she provided them with an arsenal of arts-and-crafts items, homemade costumes and games, and toys for sharing with the neighborhood children. She tirelessly volunteered her time and creative skills at her children's elementary schools and at church activities and fundraisers, and she always made sure that her carpool of summer campers had snacks when she picked them up from the camp bus in the afternoons. Education and spirituality were of the utmost importance to her, and she often worked multiple jobs to ensure that her children could have the best academic and spiritual private education available.

In her professional life, Veronica always showed a high level of dedication and industriousness, regardless of the nature of her work. She loved to recount her days as a bridal-wear buyer for a Greenfield, MA department store and the excitement and passion that she had for her duties while on buying trips to New York. Later, as a visiting nurse's aide and hospice caretaker, she was wholly dedicated to her patients, and she felt a great responsibility to help both the patient and family attain peace and comfort in their final days together. Such was the level of her commitment, that she often later befriended the families for whom she worked. In her final years, she cherished her position as a sales associate at Banana Republic, as it reminded her so much of the work of her earlier years and as it gave her the opportunity to help each customer feel confident in their appearance and to bolster their self-esteem.

She was religiously devout, and she was dedicated to her parish, St. Francis X. Cabrini. When the decision was made to shut down St. Francis, she joined a group of parishioners in a 15-year vigil in which they continuously occupied the church in an attempt to save their spiritual community.

Her funeral service will be held with a Mass at Saint Mary of the Nativity, 1 Kent Street, Scituate Harbor, MA, 02066, on 30 June 2020 at 10:00 am.
