Walter Joseph Dolson of Rockland, formerly of Whitman, passed away on December 26, 2011 at South Shore Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Rockland.  He was 90 years old.  He was the beloved husband of his wife Edith.  Mr. Dolson was the loving father of 2 daughters and 2 sons.  Walter was the brother of 3 sisters and 1 brother.  He was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren and the loving great-grandfather of 10 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by 4 nieces and 3 nephews.
Walter was born in Cambridge, MA and was the son of the late Seymore and Mary Dolson.  He attended Boston College and enjoyed going to the football games to cheer for BC.  He was a 50 year member of M.A.R.S.  Walter worked at the VA Hospital in Togus, ME for 17 years where he started a band for the residents and patients.  He also acted and was in the Augusta Players in Augusta, ME.  While living in Maine Mr. Dolson taught swimming lessons to children for the Red Cross.  Walter enjoyed working with children so much he wrote and produced 2 children’s plays in Brockton and officiated Pop Warner Football.
After moving to Whitman, Walter worked for South Shore Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center where he was the Recreational Musical Therapist.  He was also the drummer for nursing home, drumming was his heart felt hobby.   Along with his many other activities, hobbies and clubs Mr. Dolson was a proud Past Commander, Event Planner, Photographer and Chaplin for the Whitman VFW.  Walter also was an involved parishioner of Holy Ghost in Whitman where he served as an eucharistic minister, an usher, a photographer and a CCD teacher.  Mr. Dolson participated in the amateur radio club in Whitman under his call sign, K1-BZD.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman on Friday December 30th at 11am.

Calling Hours will be held from 4-8pm on Thursday December 29, 2011 at MacKinnon Funeral Home 760 Washington St WHITMAN.

Interment will be in Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman.
